First Annual Harvest of Talents!

Sunday, May 20, 2012

For the past seven months, Denise has been busy, and very passionate about planning this special event called Harvest of Talents. We want our family & friends to know about Harvest of Talents because this project holds a very special place in our hearts.

Harvest of Talents is an event effort based on 1 Peter 4;10: Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. The idea is that a community of people come together and donate their given talents, and host an event to raise money for world hunger. Last year, Denise & 2 of her friends visited a Harvest of Talents in Marion, IN and decided that this was something they could do in their own town! So Denise, Katie, & Rachel have planned a 2 phase Harvest for their home towns in East Tennessee!

On May 20, we had our first phase. The phase was a simple 2 hour silent auction held in downtown Knoxville. We had over 150 items donated for the cause, and raised $4,580! That's the equivalent to 11,450 pounds of rice for hungry people around the world! In just 2 hours!

Phase 2 of the event will be a FULL day event on October 6. The next few months will be busy planning for this awesome day!

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
